I know that there were several people during the Olympics who were refused entry into Canada because they were known to police for starting riots and inciting crowds. Unfortunately, I doubt the Stanley Cup playoffs would have afforded the border security staff the same safeguarding authorization - and that's not to say we needed outside help to cause destruction. I'm sure we have enough homegrown idiots of our own.

There were professionals involved, of this I have no doubt. If I had to guess, the police held back because they 'knew' what was coming and had to hope most of the fans were smart enough to leave before things got ugly.

I heard a statement today saying that they thought they'd reward Vancouverite's for their good behaviour and let them party a bit more. That's why they slacked off on their patrols. I don't buy it, they're not that naive or stupid.

You have to wonder if measures were taken up until the seventh game if there is something going on in the background we normal citizens would hate to even meditate on. A reason to bring in marshal law maybe? There seemed all sorts of hints at riling up the crowds from what I can read here. People I have talked to are speculating on professional rioters finding there way to our beautiful city. How many freedoms can the 'establishment' now take from us. Hmmmmm?

See what comes out in the wash.

Susan I am not a bit surprise your phrase has caught on. Craig's (my husband) dad is in palliative care and has between 1-5 days left. Those numbers mean so little when we have known for 10 years that his cancer was terminal. We have been blessed to be the family in the same city. We hold vigil and wait. Those who have not been able to visit are making time to come hold his hand and say their final goodbyes. We see his body fading away from not eating but are grateful for his lack of pain. We feel blessed to rub lotion on his large but so fragile hands in-between hurried visits and good byes. But the term "The New Normal" has become a strength to Craig's mother and to our immediate family. It means life will go on and while we are mourning even now we are looking forward to the day he is released, the rituals complete and life can resume again. Different but doable. I've shared your phrase with many and it has become part of their vocabulary because it speaks of hope, renewal and acceptance of life's unfailing changes. Thank you for sharing that with all of us.
Love
Cousin Deb
(ps...not edited at all:) If I did that I'd never write anyone!!!)

You too? Serious case of Writer's Block here... but I have such a problem forcing myself to write when I don't feel it. That's why NaNo is such a crazy challenge for me.

The more excited I get about a project, the less I am actually able to sit down and do it, weird eh?

I hope you get your stuff edited and written soon! And can't wait to see ya at the NaNo Events!

*looks intently at her feet* Dangit! You pointed right at me! Ok, so no. We have some things covered, like life insurance. But, neither me nor my husband have our wills drawn up. We have the do-it-yourself kit and even though I've attempted to go through the documents, I find the whole prospect too overwhelming for me to handle. So, the forms are all saved on my desktop at home, and I find it discourages me from using my desktop at all. But, really we should get on top of it and get some paperwork filled out.

Thank you for sharing that Sue! Even though we never got to meet him, I know from all your stories how important he was. The Eulogy you wrote is a lovely tribute to him.

I'm amazed at how strong you are to share so openly and so early in your grief. Just remember that you've got lots of friends on both coasts for those days when you need to be weak for a change.

Even though my own father had a long and protracted demise, I never really gave thought to his eulogy until after he passed. Then all the heads swiveled to look at the writer, naturally.
